Philip II of Spain (1527–1598)

 ... son of Emperor Charles V and Elizabeth of Portugal, inherited dominions in Europe (Spain, the Netherlands) and the Americas from his father. Only the title of emperor and the Habsburg throne passed to his uncle Ferdinand. From 1581 he was also named king of Portugal. He married in succession his cousin Maria Emanuela, Mary the Catholic Queen of England, Elizabeth of Valois, daughter of Henry II and Catherine of Medici, and Anna of Austria, daughter of Maximilian II. From his last wife, his son Philip (1578–1621) was born, who in 1599 married his cousin Margaret of Austria (1584–1611).
