The Holy Face and the new cathedral

After several medieval projects, the Renaissance plan was undertaken in the mid-sixteenth century. The assignment went to Andrés de Vandelvira, who began works that were to finish in 1726.
The result was a building of substantial proportions conceived as a stone reliquary for the Holy Face.
